I set up this site to help anyone and everyone really who is in business for themselves.

Several years ago, I was sitting in an office with no windows working on "the" spreadsheet. It was the one I worked on at the end of every month.

My time on "the" spreadsheet took many days straight and my job was to verify the figures provided by each and every sales exec in the company. As you can imagine my days got longer and longer as the company grew in size and hired more sales execs.

I knew how to fix the problem. It was a matter for automation. The only problem was, I didn't have time to automate the spreadsheet because I was short on time already, dealing with the existing work.

So the automation never happened, the company grew larger, my days got longer and eventually I brought in help to deal with the amount of work that there was.

But the problem was: I didn't have enough time to train my helper to do the job I was doing. So my helper, let's call her, "her", wasn't immediately very helpful. It took "her" several weeks to learn what I did and not being a Mathematician, she relied on me to help when spreadsheet formulae were involved.

This might sound familiar. Probably hasn't happened to you, but to somebody out there...

somebody you know.

The thing was, I was suited for the job I was doing. I was a spreadsheet specialist and a Mathematician, but there was nothing in my job description that allowed me time to automate "the" spreadsheet.

It wasn't something that was considered or valued, and as long as the company was expanding the EXECUTIVES (in capitals) were happy.

Soon a decision was made to have other spreadsheets for other tasks and guess who was charged with overseeing the other spreadsheets. Now I said oversee, not manage. The people who managed it, generally only came to me when they couldn't explain why the numbers were coming out "funny"!

Only it wasn't that the numbers were funny so much as the formulae creating the numbers were...hmm funny!

So I started working on automation at home, in my evenings, weekends, evenings. Now I couldn't do anything about the spreadsheets at work, because they belonged to the company, but hypothetically I created a comparable spreadsheet at home and tried to figure out how I would solve the problem.

I solved the problem. It was amazingly rewarding and fulfilling, but I still wouldn't be able to apply it to the spreadsheet at work, "the" spreadsheet. That would involve testing it and there was no time to do that.

So I had this idea. Why don't I advertise and see if I can solve somebody else's problem; somebody who was having a similar problem. There was no point getting frustrated over something I couldn't control. No, the only way to get some satisfaction was to help somebody else.

So I did...

After about a month, I got my first enquiry and my first client. It was a wonderful feeling. I was going to completely automate this business-owner's spreadsheet experience. For about $500, his whole project was automated and he couldn't believe it. Everything he did several times a day was now being done by the computer itself. It took 14 seconds to do what he was doing in a couple of hours.

The thing was, up until then, he hadn't considered doing that process more than once a day. So now he did it once in the morning, once in the afternoon and once right before going home.

My life as an Excel VBA developer started from that point on and within a few months, I was able to quit my Jay Oh Bee (Job), to work on other people's spreadsheet automation full time.

This website came about a few years after that first client and it has been my privilege to work with many businesses to creatively solve their needs.
